In the database of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Volume 3, 1857-1859, page 436, a gilt watch without balance spring but with gut string by David Du Chemin à Rouen is mentioned, which could be this piece.
–
This watch was owned by the family of the Scottish poet William Drummond of Hawthornden (1585-1649) for many years and it is said that this watch was the one the poet himself wore.
–
David du Chemin comes from a family of watchmakers, listed from 1630, who moved from Rouen to Amsterdam and then back to Rouen in the middle of the 17th century. The so-called ‘sea urchin’ case is very rarely found among pendant watches from the first half to about the middle of the 17th century. Another example is part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Signed: David Du Chemin Rouen
