Extract from the Archives confirming sale in 1897 and Geneva Observatory rating certificate obtained in 1896. This ‘Extra’ quality watch featured a Guillaume balance and was submitted to the Geneva Observatory in 1896 for chronometric testing. Made to the highest levels of watchmaking, watches presented to the Observatory were destined to compete against the world’s most accurate watches. Comparable to the Olympics of watchmaking, watch companies sent only a select few watches for testing. See lot 170 for additional information regarding Patek Philippe’s tiered quality system.
