An American gold pair cased watch featuring a stop slide and a multicoloured gold and rock crystal chatelaine, both the case and chatelaine adorned with portrait busts of George Washington, circa 1840. The movement of this watch is key wound and features a gilded full plate with an English lever, a three arm balance, and a heavily engraved balance cock with a diamond endstone. It is signed and numbered Jacob Fogle from Milledgeville, Georgia, with a plain dust cap stamped LD & Co. A stop slide is located at 5 o’clock, and the inner case is stamped H.W.O. and numbered.  Additionally, the watch comes with a gold chatelaine that is heavily chased and engraved, made of varicoloured gold and rock crystal. His advertisements featured a variety of products, including watches, silver spoons, beaded bags, swords, plain canes, and both belt and pocket pistols. He also maintained a general assortment of items related to his trade. Notably, during this period, Milledgeville served as the capital of Georgia from 1804 to 1868, including throughout the American Civil War.
