Important rose and yellow gold chronometer by Omega

A very fine and important Swiss 18 carat rose and yellow gold keyless Première Classe pocket chronometer with high relief decoration, circa 1910. Specially made in 280 examples for the Eidgenössisches Schützenfest or Federal Shooting Exhibition in Bern, Switzerland, 1910. Sold on August 5th, 1910. Gilt brass, caliber 19″‘ LOD movement, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, eccentric cam micrometer regulator. Gold hinged cuvette engraved Eidgenössisches Schützenfest, Bern 1910, K. Niklaus, Monrepas. White enamel dial with painted dauphine numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and original rose gold spade hands. Solid, polished case, the back cast with the profile of a lady dressed in traditional Bernese costume and headdress, surrounded by the inscription 1910 Bern. Dial and movement signed, case signed Holy Frères, movement and case numbered. Accompanied by the original fitted rosewood box with mother-of-pearl medallion, a gilt and hairwork chain, the original Bulletin de Marche and an Extract of the same.

The Bernese lady depicted on the back cover of this watch is dressed in the traditional attire of the Simmental area with a light, transparent ‘schwefelhuetli’ on her head. Her profile is surrounded by the words ‘1910 Bern’ on a fine crown of Edelweiss flowers. Caliber 19″‘ LOD, as used in this watch, is a chronometer caliber. Omega supplied some 180 watches for the 1910 Federal Shooting Exhibition in Berne.
