A very fine French 20 carat gold and enamel verge pocket watch with gold tooled morocco leather covered outer protective case, circa 1770. Gilt full plate movement, hinged to the case, cylindrical pillars, verge escapement, three armed balance, continental type balance cock, polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions, outermost Arabic five minute numerals, winding aperture at 2 o’clock and original paste set pierced hands. Louis XVI case, paste set bezel, the back set with a finely painted on enamel oval panel depicting a young couple before an altar in a classical landscape, paste set border and matted gold outer border decorated with raised flowers and enameled leaves. Dial and movement signed.
