Gold verge with polychrome enamel scene

A decorative French, 18 or 20 carat yellow gold and enamel key winding Louis XVI  pocket watch, circa 1770. An open faced, round shaped quarter repeater à toc. Two hammers on the inside case, activated by depressing the pendant. The case with polychrome enamel painting décor signed lower right “HL S”. On the caseback, a scene showing a young couple of shepherds, the boy embracing the maiden and leering at her breast. The virgin holding a lamb under her arm in front of the faithful dog in an idyllic landscape.

White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with Arabic numerals at every five minutes and yellow gold Louis XVI hands. A gilded brass movement, fusee and chain, verge escapement, gilt brass monometallic balance and blued steel flat hairspring, pierced and engraved gilded continental cock; repeater work on the main plate, under the dial. Signature on the movement.
