A fine and very unusual Swiss black onyx, gold and diamond set shield shaped keyless cylinder pendant watch with detachable chatelaine fitting en suite, circa 1870. Frosted gilt movement, bar calibre, eight jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, cylinder escapement, gilt three armed balance, flat balance spring and an index regulator. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track and original blued steel spade hands. Case cut from single piece of onyx, rose cut diamond set petal form bezel, gold mounts and suspension chain, winding crown at the top, glazed hinged back. Accompanied by a chatelaine with gold spoon and circular black onyx disc with rose cut diamond set flower.
