A very fine Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel and pearl-set open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1780. Frosted gilt full plate movement, tapered pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, three armed brass balance, flat balance spring, continental type balance cock with polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute divisions and Arabic five-minute numerals and original gold pierced hands. The case back is decorated with a finely painted on enamel scene of a lady directing cupid to shoot his arrow at a flaming heart, in an arcadian landscape with an opalescent sunset sky, multi-coloured gold paillon border and outer gold leaf border set with seed pearls, bezel with engraved lozenge border and set with seed pearls. Dial and movement signed.
