A fine French 20 Carat vari coloured gold open faced cylinder pocket watch, circa 1770. Frosted gilt full plate movement, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder escapement, three armed brass balance, flat balance spring, continental balance cock, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track and large Arabic five minute numerals and original gold fleur-de-lys hands. The case back decorated with an oval vari coloured scene of two hearts on the altar of love with a pair of doves above and surrounded by a basket of flowers, mandolin and bow and quiver, border and bezel with repeated pattern. Dial and movement signed.
