A fine and rare French 18 carat gold open faced quarter repeating verge pocket watch with concealed erotic automaton, circa 1800. Hinged gilt cuvette with a spring-loaded small central cover revealing a couple on a couch, animated by the repeating mechanism. Frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, Ø 45 mm, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute divisions, a winding aperture at 2 o’clock and blued steel Breguet hands. The case with an engine-turned back, a reeded bezel and band and a bolt at 11 o’clock to lock the repeating. Dial, cuvette and movement signed.
