A very fine Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced minute repeating split seconds chronograph keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1889. Retailed by George C. Shreve & Co, San Francisco. Sold on July 31st, 1890. ¾ Plate plate movement, 29 jewels, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Gold hinged cuvette with engraved monogram. White enamel dial with Breguet numerals, outer minute and 1/5th of a second divisions with red Arabic five second markers, subsidiary seconds dial and original blued steel spade hands. Polished case, slide for locking the chronograph at 11 o’clock, button for split seconds between 10 and 11. Dial, case and movement signed by the retailer, movement signed by the watchmaker, case numbered. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.
