A very fine and very rare French varicoloured gold, enamel and diamond set open faced quarter repeating pendant watch made by Jean-Antoine Lépine in Paris, circa 1766. Hinged frosted gilt full plate movement with conical pillars, fusee and chain, a verge escapement, three arm brass balance with a blued steel flat balance spring, an index regulator with a silver scale, a continental type foliate pierced cock and polished steel endplate, repeating on a bell in the back of the case. White enamel dial with Roman hours intersected by rose cut diamond set indexes, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals and original diamond set Louis XV hands. The Louis XV case features a rose cut diamond set bezel, chased and engraved with flowers and a repeated pattern, a diamond thumbpiece and on the back, a polychrome enamel scene depicting a seated lady reading a book with a rose cut diamond set border. Movement signed.
