Gold open faced quarter repeater by Vacheron & Constantin

A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold open faced quarter repeating cylinder pocket watch, circa 1830. Frosted gilt movement, four jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating with two polished steel hammers on two gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Gold hinged cuvette. Engine-turned silver dial with painted Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, eccentric sunk subsidiary seconds dial between 2 and 3, moiré floral centre and original gold Breguet hands. Solid case, entirely foliate chased and engraved, the centre with a portrait of Ceres holding a cornucopia. Cuvette and movement signed.
