A fine and rare French gilt brass single handed Louis XIV oignon watch, circa 1690. Frosted gilt full plate movement, divided Egyptian pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, four armed steel balance, short balance spring, pierced and chased cock decorated with foliage, primitive type regulator. White enamel dial with large black painted Roman numerals, inner quarter hour ring, winding aperture at 2 and blued steel tulip hand. The case back chased and engraved with inhabited foliage and strapwork, foliate strapwork border and bezel, square hinge, loose ring pendant. Movement signed.
