Two day marine chronometer by A. Lange & Söhne

A fine German two day marine chronometer with 56 hour power reserve, circa 1940. Brass full plate movement, turned pillars secured by screws, oeil de perdrix decoration, fusee and chain, Harrisons maintaining power, Earnshaw spring detent escapement, cut bi metallic compensation balance with four circular mean time weights and two temperature nuts, free sprung helical balance spring with outer terminal curves. Silvered dial with Arabic hour numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, up and down indicator at 12 o’clock, original gold spade hands. Beach with glazed top, gimballed resin bowl with screw down glazed bezel, resin gimbal ring locked by swivelling arm mounted in the front right corner.
Dial, case and movement signed and numbered.
