Unsigned two colour gold and enamel mandolin form watch
–
An Austrian two colour gold and enamel pocket watch in the shape of a mandolin, with a musical movement, crafted in the late 19th century. This watch has an earlier (circa 1820) gilded full plate movement with verge escapement, plain flat three arm balance, decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge, fusee and chain, and cylindrical pillars. It features a restored white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, an outer minute ring with red Arabic 5 minute divisions, an aperture for winding, filigree hands, and a barrel containing an earlier musical movement on chains. The movement is numbered 1771, and one spring is illegibly signed and dated March 1810 or 1819.
–
The gold case, dating from the late 19th century, has the back decorated with translucent blue guilloché enamel heightened with a crowned monogram MA in gold, within a champlevé border of trailing flowers on a banded white enamel and gold ground. The front of the case is enamelled in white with fleurs-de-lis on a sablé ground, a lever for music activation, a diamond set border, and a diamond set thumb-piece that opens to reveal the watch dial.

The dial has been restored with soft enamel, and the case shows enamel restoration work. While the music feature appears unengaging, the watch functions and ticks when wound.
