A rare and early American gilt brass oval pre hairspring verge watch, circa 1655. Gilt finished oval verge movement, pierced and engraved balance cock, steel two armed pre hairspring balance wheel, worm set up with blued steel decorative mounts, pierced Egyptian pillars. Engraved gilt dial plated with floral scrolls, off set silvered dial with engraved Roman numerals and single blued steel hand. Oval engraved case with grotesque designs, the front lid with a scene of Artemis at the hunt, the reverse with Asclepius holding his staff and the band further engraved with scrolls and two landscapes.
