A rare French silver and tortoiseshell pair cased astronomical pre hairspring verge watch, circa 1678. Gilt finished verge movement, chain fusée, pierced and engraved balance cock and foot, steel pre hairspring balance wheel. Gilt foliate engraved dial plate, three subsidiary dials indicating phases of the moon and lunar calendar, date and hours, two fan form apertures for month and day of the week. Plain inner case, tortoiseshell outer case with silver stud work. Movement signed.
