A rare and large German gilt metal two train stackfreed pre hairspring hour striking clockwatch, circa 1600. Gilt finished two train movement, verge escapement with foliot and hog’s bristle, C-shaped stackfreed, striking on one hammer onto a bell. Gilt brass dial, outer chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals and twelve touch pins, engraved inner 24-hour (13 to Z4) Arabic divisions with German ‘Z’ for numeral ‘2’, pinhole for setting the striking, engraved foliage decorated centre and single blued steel hand. Large tambour-shaped case, hinged front cover pierced with twelve heart-shaped openings to reveal the hour markers, central aperture for the setting of the hand, pierced foliage decorated band, back with pierced and engraved floral and foliage decoration.
