A fine, rare and unusual Swiss 18 carat gold open faced keyless lever Ricochet dress watch designed by Gilbert Albert for Patek Philippe in Geneva, circa 1963. The jewelled lever movement stamped twice with the Geneva seal. Bark finished gold dial with baton hour indexes and black hands. The textured asymmetrical case with a snap on back stamped JG for J. Guillermin and French gold assay marks. Comes with a later associated 18 carat gold chain. Case, dial and movement signed, case and movement numbered.

A fine example of Patek Philippe reference 788 from the celebrated ‘Ricochet’ collection of asymmetrical timepieces designed by Gilbert Albert. Albert started working for Patek Philippe in 1995 and took his inspiration from his passion for modern art, notably works by Brancusi and Mondrian. In 1962, he founded his own firm at Rue de la Corraterie in Geneva, where one of his workshops is still located today. Reference 788 was launched in 1961 and remained in production until around 1966. It existed in different versions to date, known only in yellow gold shapes and dials. The Ricochet collection is described and illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, the second edition.
