Silver watch spuriously bearing the signature Tompion, London

A continental silver verge clock watch with date, circa 1710. The watch features a gilded full plate movement with verge escapement, pierced and engraved balance cock, fusee and chain, Egyptian pillars, and is falsely marked with the signature Tompion, London. It has a silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals, Arabic outer track, half hour divisions, date aperture, beetle and poker hands, also falsely marked with the signature Tompion, London, within a scrolling decoration cartouche. The plain silver case bears the maker’s mark IC and has a shuttered winding aperture, but the outer case is missing. It comes with a later associated presentation case.

The movement is operational. The dial shows signs of tarnishing and scuffs. The case has tarnishing and is covered in dents.
