A probably unique and impressive French 18 carat two colour gold, enamel, diamond, emerald and ruby set verge watch made for the Turkish market, circa 1783. Gilt finished verge movement, chain fusée, finely pierced and engraved scroll decorated balance cock, silver regulator plate with Turkish numerals. White enamel dial, Turkish numerals, outer Arabic five minute divisions and diamond set pierced hands decorated with Ottoman symbols. Large case, chased bezel and rim with raised diamond, emerald and ruby set floral decoration on frosted gold ground, rose gold fluted borders, the reverse decorated with diamond set, translucent royal blue enamel over engine turned background resembling a starry sky, centred by a circular enamel miniature depicting the outline of the earth in the night sky, illumined by the rays of the rising sun, crescent and Venus, surrounded by a diamond set border. Movement signed and numbered, pendant stamped with the Paris date letter for 1783.
