Gold pocket watch by the firm of Rey Frères

A very fine Swiss decorative gold pocket watch, circa 1830. This beautiful watch boasts a lever escapement and an attractive silver dial. The bezels, pendant, and bow are adorned with intricate floral engravings, adding a touch of elegance to its design. The case back features an engine-turned pattern with a monogrammed cartouche at the centre. The watch is signed on the works with Fes Rey (in script) A GENEVE and is marked on the outside case with CC inside a horizontal diamond.

With a long history dating back to the 18th century, Frères Rey & Cie was a well-known Swiss watch manufacturer and retailer. The company was founded in the early 19th century by the Rey brothers, who came from a highly respected watchmaking family in Geneva. Although the workshop was located in Saint-Gervais, the company, unfortunately, had to declare bankruptcy on October 1, 1821. Nevertheless, the Rey brothers’ impact on Swiss watchmaking is still recognized and commemorated today.
