A very fine and rare Dutch pair-cased verge clock watch with hour self-strike and day and night indicator, circa 1720. Signed fire gilt, keywind, full plate movement with applied engraved ornaments, chain/fusee, two barrels, baluster-shaped movement pillars, one hammer, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, florally engraved and pierced balance bridge with punched figures of Neptune and Diana. Signed silver champlevé dial with retrograde Roman numerals for diurnal and nocturnal hours, the bottom half of the dial with the punched mythological scene Danae, the upper half with an aperture for sun and moon indication, engraved moon, stars and sun on a blued steel disc, blued steel hand. Silver engraved and pierced outer case with large lateral hinge, the inner case also silver engraved and pierced with rear bell.
