Silver watch in pair cases
–
A rare, early pair cased repoussé pocket watch made by Gerrit Bramer in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, circa 1720. The cases include an exceptionally fine chased outer case, richly decorated with a military figure scene on the back, its edge ornamented with detailed angel heads. The inner case is plain, providing a restrained contrast to the elaborate exterior. The original champlevé dial features Roman hours, half hour markers, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals, a window for the date and gilt hands. The movement is fitted with a verge escapement, exceptional pillars and a bridge engraved with two dogs chasing a lion.
The dial and movement are signed.
