Gold and enamel verge pocket watch by Jan Hendrik Kühn

Dutch gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1780. This watch features a gilded full plate movement, signed J.H. Kuhn from Amsterdam, and includes a verge escapement, a pierced and engraved double screwed balance cock, a silvered regulation dial, and a fusee and chain. The white enamel dial, also signed J.H. Kuhn, Amsterdam, showcases Roman numerals and an outer minute track with Arabic five minute divisions, complemented by gold beetle and poker hands. The gold case is adorned with leaves and berries along the borders and is numbered 3366 on the bow. The reverse side displays an enamel painted allegorical scene representing the four continents, centred by the Dutch Maiden (Nederlandse Maagd), and is signed in the foreground with ST, No. 102.

The dial is in very good condition. Movement is complete and capable of running. The case is in generally good condition. The thin white outer enamel ring at the rear has minor chips and an old restoration. The enamel panel is in good condition, with surface scratches commensurate with age.
