A very fine and rare French oval one-handed metal and rock crystal verge pendant watch, circa 1590. This piece boasts a metal full plate movement with a verge escapement. The dial is adorned with enamel-painted scenes, complemented by a chapter ring featuring radial Roman hour numerals, half-hour dots, and a single steel hand. The metal case is framed with a rock crystal hinged cover over the dial and applied decorations. The watchmaker, R. Dieu, created this watch while the case was fixed up by Reinhold Vasters, a renowned German case maker (1827-1909). The movement bears the signature of R. Dieu and is marked with the location of its creation, Paris.
