The legendary watchmaker David Auguste Golay (1814-1895) founded a dynasty of watchmakers in Geneva. At the age of 23, in August 1837, he married the director and daughter of a watchmaker, Susanne Henriette Leresche, and founded the company A. Golay-Leresche in 1847. Five sons came from this marriage. Two of his sons, David Louis Golay and Joseph Pierre Golay, continued the business after his death under the name A. Golay-Leresche & Fils. Louis became a jeweller and representative of the company in Paris at Rue de la Paix 2. Pierre became a watchmaker and later took over management of the company in Geneva. The brothers entered into a partnership with Edouard Stahl in 1896. Between 1896 and 1906, the company was renamed Golay Fils & Stahl and later Golay Fils & Stahl Successors.
