A Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased chronometer with date, circa 1870. Guilloché nickel bridge movement, rose gold wheels, special cylindrical spiral, gold escapement wheel, chronometer escapement with detent, diamond endstone, keywind, bolted gold chatons, chain, fusee and chronometer balance with large weights. White enamel dial, date under the ’12’, large decentral seconds at ‘6’ and very fine, delicate, diamonds set rose gold hands. Guilloché case with relief rim, maker’s mark ‘JLI’. Cuvette signed and numbered.

The Swiss chronometer maker James Calame-Robert La Chaux-de-Fonds is known for his outstanding quality watches. He was one of the first Swiss chronometer makers to work with Louis Audemars. There are several of these extremely rare chronometers with date known, some with detent escapement and some with tourbillon.
