Gold watch with an eight-day duration

A very fine English 18 carat gold open faced lever pocket watch with an eight-day duration and power reserve indication. Jewelled three-quarter plate gilt-brass movement with dual mainsprings, English lever escapement with bimetallic split compensation balance.
Finely engraved gilt dial with apertures bearing black Roman numerals banded by an outer floral wreath, subsidiary dials for running seconds and power reserve indication respectively at 6 and 12 o’clock, blue steel spade hands.
Ornately engraved case, the reverse with a scalloped border surrounding flowers, scrolls and a vacant cartouche, maker’s mark RR for Robert Rowlands, 5 Meredith Street, case and movement numbered. Dial and movement signed Ja.s Hoddell & Co. Patent, 15 Northampton Squ.e, London.
