–
An exceptionally heavy pocket chronometer, possibly made by Beaumont in Margate, England, circa 1802. The open faced case was crafted from 18 carat gold has London hallmarks from 1802 and the master’s mark TH for Thomas Hardy. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold hands. The numbered movement has a very fine detent chronometer escapement in the manner of Earnshaw, a chronometer balance with three different weight types, a helical hairspring and a diamond end stone.
The movement is signed.
