A fine English, 18 carat gold pocket watch with Massey lever escapement with unusual bimetallic compensation balance, circa 1850. The back with concentric engine-turning. Gilt brass sprung dust cap. Gold, engine-turned dial with applied polished gold radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute indexes, applied varicoloured gold flower and foliate border and centre. Gold lozenge hands. A frosted gilt, half-plate movement, cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain and maintaining power, Massey lateral lever escapement, three-arm brass balance with an internal blued steel rim for temperature compensation, blued steel flat balance spring with gilt brass balance cock with engraved decoration, diamond endstone, index regulator. Movement signed.
