Silver and tortoiseshell watch in triple cases

An English silver and tortoiseshell triple cased key wound pocket watch made for the Ottoman market, circa 1830. A gilt, pierced, foliage and floral engraved full plate movement with a cylinder escapement, solid round pillars, chain and fusee, a three arm steel balance and pierced balance cock.

 

White enamel dial with Arabic hours, an outer minute track, outermost Arabic five minute numerals and gold arrow shaped hands. The silver and tortoiseshell transport case with a large lateral hinge is decorated with inlaid silver studs, the silver polished and tiered outer case with a large lateral hinge, and the polished silver inner case with maker’s mark RL. A silver, decoratively engine turned and engraved, signed and numbered dust cover. Dial signed, movement signed and numbered.
