Repoussé Adam and Eve case
–
An important, garnet studded gold Repoussé verge pocket watch: Adam and Eve in front of an apple tree with a blued snake wound around it; probably commissioned by a clergyman, circa 1720. The watch features an 18K gold case with repoussé decoration and finely chased and engraved scenes from the animal world. The case is partly open-worked, with medallions set with garnets, a glazed back, and a silver garnet-studded movement protection cap. It has a large lateral hinge and garnet-studded pushers, with a purple velvet lining on the inside. The enamel dial displays radial Roman hours and gold Louis XV hands. The full plate movement is fire-gilt, with an applied Repoussé gold disc showing Adam and Eve in front of an apple tree. It has a chain/fusee, baluster-shaped movement pillars, and a three-arm brass balance.
