A fine English gilt metal and enamel open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1700. Gilt verge movement, balance cock pierced and engraved with scrolls. Silver dial with engraved Roman numerals. The case back has a polychrome enamel scene of the Madonna, Christ child, and John the Baptist, and the band has an enamel landscape. Dial and movement signed.

Langley Bradley is listed in Baillie as a famous watchmaker who became free of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1695 and a Master in 1726 and 1738. He made clocks for St. Paul’s Cathedral in circa 1706, and in 1738, he was also appointed the Keeper of St. Paul’s clock at £100 per year.
