A large and heavy English, 18K gold, hunting cased, keyless, pocket chronometer, circa 1912. With Earnshaw’s footed spring detent escapement and free-sprung helical balance spring. Accompanied by the original box. Made by John Bennett, maker to the Royal Observatory, 65 & 64 Cheapside, London. The case with London hallmarks for 1912-1913. A polished case, a hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dial for the seconds. Blued steel spade hands.

A gilt brass half-plate movement, going barrel, jewelled to the third wheel, Earnshaw type footed spring detent escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold temperature and meantime adjustment screws, free-sprung blued steel helical balance spring with inner and outer terminal curves, diamond endstone. Dial, cuvette and movement signed.
