Pocket watch with quarter hour repeater
–
An important, heavy pocket chronometer with repetition, made by James Bisset in London, England, circa 1810. The plain open faced case of this remarkable chronometer is made from 18 Carat gold, it is adorned with the case maker’s hallmark LC (believed to be Louis Comptois) and it has a coin edge. The case and movement bear matching numbers, 1185, further emphasizing the harmonious unity of this timekeeping masterpiece. The London Hallmarks from 1810 serve as a testament to its origin and authenticity. The white enamel dial features an outer ring adorned with Roman numerals, providing an elegant and classic touch. At the 6 o’clock position, a subsidiary seconds display with Arabic numerals adds a functional element to the dial. The blued steel hands not only enhance legibility but also add a touch of sophistication.
The heart of this pocket chronometer lies within its full plate movement, it boasts a chronometer escapement, a quarter-hour repeater, an unusual chronometer balance with different weights meticulously integrated and a cylindrical spiral.
Both the dial and movement bear the signature of James Bisset, a mark of his craftsmanship and pride in his creation.
