An English fine, rare gentleman’s pocket watch with unusual balance bridge, circa 1890.
18 carat gold, tiered, polished case with case maker’s punch mark “EW” (Edward Wilday, entered October 30, 1862). Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds and blued spade hands. Signed frosted gilt 2/3 plate movement with screwed chatons, raised barrel with engraved “City of London Boundary Dragons” and motto, English lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance, freesprung blued balance spring, two-arm balance bridge and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

English watchmaker and jeweler
Willam Gabriel had a small shop at 24 Bishopsgate Street, London , around 1872 . That year he was a witness at the “Old Bailey” for the theft of one o’clock and a number of rings from his shop. He was supplied with good quality watches by Victor Kullberg and Charles Hector Golay which he sold under the name “The City Watch”. Later on, his shop was expanded to include 24 & 25 Bishopsgate Street. Later you will also find watches signed W Gabriel, 61 Cornhill.
Willam Gabriel died in 1890 .
