An important and extremely rare astronomical English coach clock, made for the Chinese market, circa 1780.
Fire-gilt pair cases with both rims engraved with floral decorations and original signed and numbered dome. Very fine verge movement with splendid engraving, cage decorated with birds, big diamond end stone, signed and numbered main plate and verge movement with very rare complications. White enamel dial with stoppable flashing 1/4 seconds, stoppable center seconds, moon, moon age and time indication with three separated register, so-called regulator dial and gold hands. Very rare and original condition with nearly unused case.

William Carpenter (1770-1805) was one of the most important English watchmakers, who made complicated astronomical watches for the Chinese and Indian market. A technically comparable watch with the number 4643 was sold in Sotheby’s auction July 2017 for more than 20,000 €.
