Silver verge in a tortoiseshell outer case
–
An exquisite English silver and tortoiseshell pair cased verge pocket watch, circa 1780.
Its gilt metal full plate movement boasts a verge escapement, chain and fusee, and a three-arm steel balance, all meticulously crafted to ensure precision timekeeping. The balance cock is stunningly engraved and pierced with floral motifs, adding to the watch’s ornamental appeal. The silver champlevé dial features Roman hours, Arabic five-minute numerals, and blued steel Fleur-de-Lys hands, all contributing to its elegant aesthetic. The watch comes with two cases: an outer case covered with tortoiseshell that is pierced and engraved with a landscape featuring a church, and a plain silver inner case.
This timepiece is signed by the master craftsman who created it, with Ben Booth fecit inscribed on the movement and Booth fecit on two plates of the movement. This watch is not only a functional timepiece but also a stunning piece of art.
