This watch features a stylised monogram to the case back with Royal Coronet believed to be those for Augusta, Princess of Wales (1719-1772). Born Augusta of Saxe-Gothe-Altenburg, the princess was married to Frederick, Prince of Wales in 1736. Their marriage resulted in 9 children including the future George III. Frederick passed away prematurely in 1751 leading to Augusta being named as prospective regent on the occasion of the current king passing before George III came of age.
