Unusual small verge watch with tortoiseshell
–
A rare small verge watch with repeater, made by Eliizer & James Chater in London, England, circa 1750. The double case of this watch was crafted from silver and features an outer case covered with tortoiseshell, a pierced inner case and a bell. The very nicely preserved enamel dial features an outer minutes and hour track with Arabic hour numerals and the original hands, but the glass of the item presented here is missing. The numbered movement is equipped with a very fine verge escapement and an hours and quarters repeater.
The movement is signed.
