A very rare English pair cased verge pocket watch with day and night indicator, circa 1690. Full plate movement, keywind, signed, chain/fusee, tulip movement pillars, verge escapement, three arm steel balance, florally engraved and pierced balance cock. Silver champlevé dial with retrograde Roman hours for diurnal and nocturnal hours, the bottom half of the dial with engraved birds and scrolled foliage, the upper half with aperture for sun and moon indication, engraved moon, stars and sun on a blued steel disc, blued steel hand. Plain silver inner case, the back with shuttered winding aperture, tortoiseshell outer case with foliate scrolling silver piqué work.
