An English gilt brass triple cased verge pocket watch made for the Ottoman market by Markwick Markham & Josiah Bartholomew, London, circa 1800. A gilt brass and tortoiseshell, open faced, key winding pocket watch. Outer triple case with tortoise shell panels and piqué décor, gilded outer pair case, engraved with the initials I.R., probably London. White enamel dial with Turkish numerals and gilded metal Serpentine hands.
A gilded brass movement, fusee and chain, verge escapement, polished steel monometallic balance and blued steel flat hairspring, pierced and engraved gilded English cock with an urn and foliage. The dial, movement and case are signed.
