A fine French gilt open faced keywind Louis XIV vintage clock watch, circa 1690. This watch has a pendulum cock movement with verge escapement. The white enamel dial, gilt centre with scroll engravings, featuring black Roman numerals, marks for half hours, a winding opening at 2 o’clock, and steel Beetle & Poker hands. It boasts a magnificent chased and engraved gilt case.

Pierre Gaudron was considered an outstanding watchmaker. He was the son of Antoine Gaudron and brother of Antoine Gaudron. Gaudron worked in Paris between 1690 and 1730 and produced watches on behalf of the government. He was the Court watchmaker of the Duc d’Orleans and the King of France. He became a master watchmaker in 1695.
