Gilt-brass single-handed pocket watch by Nicholas Gribelin

A fine and rare French gilt-brass pair cased pre-balance spring watch with raised enamel decorated case, circa 1660. Gilt brass movement with finely pierced fixed balance cock, tangent screw mainspring set up on backplate, raised above four urn-shaped pillars, gut line fusee, verge escapement, steel two-arm balance wheel.
Restored white enamel dial with black Roman numerals bordering minute track, single blue steel hand, shallow dome soda glass.
The inner case band is decorated with a raised enamel relief of blue four-petal flowers and white foliage, the case back of carved and polished agate and later gilt bezel with engraved scrolls and scallop forms probably dating to the third quarter of the 18th century, the outer case of black shagreen with gilt piqué work a contemporary marriage, movement signed Nicholas Gribelin A Paris.
