Gold watch with a beautiful dial by Alexander Hüning

An exceptionally decorative, flat Swiss gold enamel pocket watch from Geneva, circa 1910. This watch features a beautifully designed silver dial with a vase surrounded by tendrils and filled with a bouquet of flowers. The sub-dial for the small seconds is large and recessed, extending from the pointer axis to the lower edge. A narrow white enamel chapter ring with Roman numerals is located on the rim, which is surrounded by a cobalt blue champlevé enamel bezel. The same bezel is repeated on the back. The watch is equipped with a bridge movement, gold screw compensation balance, and lever escapement, all enclosed within a 14K gold enamel case.

Alexander Hüning, born in Germany in 1855, moved to Geneva in 1880 after completing his watchmaking training. He was naturalized as a citizen of Switzerland in 1898. In 1893, he founded a company called Fiebiger & Huening together with Emile Fiebiger. The company was located at Rue de Lévrier 13 in Geneva. After the death of his partner, Hüning continued to run the company alone. Hüning was renowned for creating high-quality pocket watches with complications.
