A fine gold and enamel verge watch with pailloné enamel, made by Daniel Vaucher in Paris, France, circa 1780. The case of this watch, crafted from 18 carat gold, features a very elaborately enamelled, wonderful pailloné technique on the back. The white enamel dial has an outer ring with 15 minutes division, Arabic hour numerals and gold hands. The movement is fitted with a verge escapement.
The dial and the movement are signed.

Vaucher
Daniel Vaucher was born in Fleurier and moved to Paris in 1760, where he became a master watchmaker. His wife and six children remained in Fleurier and later moved to Paris. Jonas-Frédéric Vaucher, Jean-Henri-David Vaucher, François Vaucher, Jean-Jacques Vaucher, Samuel Vaucher and daughter Isabelle-Salomé Vaucher became watchmakers. Outstanding watches from this family were usually signed ‘Vauchez en la Cité’.
