Exquisite gold verge watch in relief case

An exquisite gold verge watch with repeater in a relief case, made by Jean Baptiste Duterte in Paris, France, circa 1750. The numbered and very special case of this watch, crafted from 18 carat gold, features raised flower relief on the back and a button for silent repeating on the case band. The white enamel dial features an outer track with Arabic 5 minute numerals, Roman hour numerals and gold hands. The numbered movement is fitted with a verge escapement and an hours and quarters repeater.
The dial and movement are signed.

Duterte
Jean Baptiste Dutertre (1715–1773) was one of the most important Parisian watchmakers of the 18th century. He became a master watchmaker in 1735 and took over his father’s workshop on the Quai des Orfèvres.
His family made very fine watches from circa 1715 until 1758.
