Gold skeleton verge pocket watch
–
French yellow gold skeleton pocket watch, chased and engraved, with front winding key, made by Jean-Antoine Lépine, Paris, circa 1750. This watch features a glazed back that reveals the engraved, chased gold movement and verge escapement. White enamel dial signed L’Épine à Paris, with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, the hours alternating with small diamonds in claw settings, chased fleur-de-lis hands, and the smallest hand pavéset with small diamonds. (A small chip in the enamel under the watch keyhole, the winding glass.) The gold case, with its bevelled edges, is also set with small diamonds in a closed setting on both sides of the watch.
